I promised the Lord I would start giving testimonies of the graces I’ve received, even when I didn’t deserve them, and the times He pulled through for my family and I. I waited a long time to start sharing because these stories are so personal. But just like I love hearing others’ testimonies, and especially stories of the miracles that have happened in their lives, I should share my testimonies, too, to hopefully help give hope, faith, and inspiration to others.
Without further ado, I’m going to start with a little story about one of my patron saints, whom I have a great devotion to, St. Thérèse, and most importantly, Jesus in the Eucharist, Whom I have the greatest devotion to. 🙂
This grace happened several years ago. I went to a church that was having a special Mass for St. Thérèse’s feast day, and I went with one of my best friends who also has a devotion to St. Thérèse. I just remember that this church was on the top of a hill or a cliff and was very quaint. It was a little dim inside compared to other churches, but I loved the cozy atmosphere. Before we went up for Communion, I was praying for my friend whom I was with. I knew her intentions, and I think I was just thanking God and asking God to bless her and I. During Communion, we went to receive the Eucharist. I went first, with my friend in line behind me. We both returned to our seats in the pew. As I was kneeling there, I was praying, smiling, and wondering… because when I received the Body of Christ, the Host was like a flower…! I can’t describe it any way that makes sense, but the Host had the nature of a rose and that of its scent, lightness, and delicateness. I still can’t accurately describe it to this day, but it was so pleasant, delightful, and peaceful.
After Mass, we each received a rose. I was still thinking about what happened during Communion, and thought I was going crazy and just imagining things… that was, until later in the evening (after not mentioning it to my friend for a while), my friend and I were talking to each other about the Mass… and she started telling me that the Host she received earlier that evening was like a rose! I told her I had the same exact experience, too! We were asking all sorts of questions at this point… Did the people who work at the parish order Communion hosts that had any other ingredients in it? Could they have added other ingredients to them for the feast day? Did anyone else who received Communion that day experience the same thing? Why didn’t we ask anyone else if they had the same experience? But one by one, I dismissed these questions, because I don’t believe you’re allowed to add any other ingredients to Communion hosts (whether during the creation of them or afterward) and we didn’t hear anyone else speaking about this experience after the Mass (however, my friend and I didn’t speak about it right after the Mass, either).
The following year, I went by myself to the same parish to celebrate St. Thérèse’s feast day again. Of course, I was wondering if I would have the same experience again, and I didn’t. I was hoping that I would, but it actually was good that I didn’t, because it showed me, once and for all, that what my friend and I experienced the previous year was not something put together by the parish in any way… but rather, so gracefully put together by Jesus and His Little Flower. 🙂
